ASEAN business summit kicks off in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Brunei Times/ANN) -- Delegates for the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit (ASEAN BIS) were welcomed last night in a reception held at The Empire Hotel & Country Club.

Hosted by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Brunei (ASEAN BAC), delegates were treated to a night of Bruneian food and culture.

Welcoming the delegates was the Chair of the (ASEAN BIS ) 2013, Lisa Ibrahim who said that the ASEAN BAC aimed to provide private sector feedback on the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) while also identifying priority areas for the consideration of leaders.

"As a council, our role is to review and identify issues to facilitate and promote economic cooperation and integration and to socialise the AEC to the private sector both within ASEAN and beyond."

PLATFORM TO ADVANCE INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS

She said that the ASEAN BAC hosts the ASEAN Business Investment Summit to bring all parties ranging from private and public sector organisations, government representatives and captains of industry from ASEAN member countries and also other nations.

"It provides an interactive platform to advance industry and business in the region. ASEAN BAC is also reinforcing its outreach goals with increased engagements with governments, associations, institutions and the private sector," said the chair of the (ASEAN BIS).

She also noted that the council will begin its first Consultation Meeting of ASEAN Business (ASEAN BIS 2013) today.

The ASEAN BIS 2013 will feature a series of sessions highlighting aspects such as business connectivity, competitiveness, growth and investment. The line-up of speakers includes ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh.
