Opposition
rally Monday is 'first real test' for unrest

An opposition rally
planned for Monday will test whether serious political unrest is likely to
erupt in Cambodia after last month's elections, according to the Bangkok Post.
In an editorial
published Sunday, the newspaper noted the prospect of a "potentially
dangerous situation because of the disputed election that took place on July
28.
"The first real
test comes tomorrow, when supporters of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue
Party led by Sam Rainsy rally in Phnom Penh," it added.
SAM RAINSY 'CLEARLY
AWARE' OF POTENTIAL FOR VIOLENCE
"Sam Rainsy is
clearly aware of the potential for violence, and on Friday he seemed to be
trying to ratchet tensions down a notch when he said that the rally is 'not a
mass protest' against contested election results, but a 'normal meeting between
party leaders'.
"Nevertheless,
the rally will surely draw many thousands of mostly young and highly
enthusiastic people."
The National Rescue
Party has disputed the results of the election in which indicate the ruling
Cambodian People's Party won 68 seats in the 123-seat National Assembly.
