NEC
begins review of election complaints
The Cambodia Herald-15-08-2013: The National Election Committee (NEC) announced
Thursday, they had started to review the many complaints regarding election
irregularities, according to an NEC official.
Representatives
of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) did not attend the meeting with
NEC officials to resolve the complaints related to the preliminary election
results announced earlier in the week.
However
the official said that the NEC can still proceed with the inquiry even though
the opposition party did not attend the meeting.
Tep
Nitha, NEC’s Secretary General, said that NEC had received 17 complaints
rejecting the poll results from the CNRP along with poll discrepancies
announced by the Funcinpec Party.
"The
NEC is currently examining the CNRP’s complaints,"he said. “The NEC
allowed observers to verify various documents received from the polling
stations in Kratie.”
The
NEC will also verify documents reported from three other provinces on Friday,
he added.
The
NEC's preliminary election results showed that Cambodian People's Party of
Prime Minister Hun Sen won 68 seats while the CNRP had only won 55 seats.
The
opposition Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) had immediately rejected the
NEC's initial official poll results saying that there were serious
irregularities with the election.
