Car Maker Mazda Opens in Cambodia
The Cambodia Daily 15-08-2013: Japanese automaker Mazda opened its
first showroom in Cambodia on Wednesday, making it the third foreign car
company to move into the country since the beginning of the year.
“Mazda starts selling in Cambodia
from today,” said Chanthan Ngon, general manager of HGB Auto, the company’s
local dealer and a subsidiary of HGB Group. “I am optimistic that [the]
business will be a success.”
The showroom is located on the
corner of Russian Boulevard in Phnom Penh.
Since January, two other foreign car
companies, both German, have announced plans to enter the market—BMW and Porsche.
BMW is expected to open its showroom
next month, while Porsche’s showroom is due to open before the end of the year.
But unlike the high costs of those
luxury vehicles, Mazda offers more moderately priced cars likely to appeal to
Cambodia’s middle class.
According to its website, Mazda’s
cheapest vehicle is about $15,000.
